The purpose of the Trust is the promotion of science, cultural and historical research, and education of the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi as well as the ethic of nonviolence. Moreover, the support and implementation of both academic and non-academic research projects relating to Gandhi, peace and nonviolence. Another aim is the conservation of original documents on and by Mahatma Gandhi and to make these documents easily and widely available to encourage the study of Gandhi's life and work. 


Furthermore, the execution and technical support of such educational projects which propagate peace, the ethics of nonviolence and the memory of Mahatma Gandhi and his teachings.
